I follow a lot of fitness people on social media and read a lot of fitness blogs. I see the fitness quotes/articles and while some of them may be inspiring, some of them are preachy - in some cases they’re downright offensive, such as: “Sweat is fat crying”.
Seriously, I read that. I also read this: http://www.impactmagazine.ca/workout/articles/fitnotfat.html
This is why people hate/fear gyms when gyms are supposed to be a place of health and wellness. I joined a gym because, while I think exercise is fun, I get bored easily; gyms provide the variety in fitness options that I’m looking for. Also, as I’ve previously mentioned, the facility that I chose really is a place of health and wellness.
I won’t go through every offensive sentence in the highlighted article, but please don’t let the ignorant generalisations get you down, no matter what size you are. As a so-called “fit person”, I give into my cravings, I don’t diet (I make sure I eat the good stuff before I treat myself) and the ridiculous idea that only “fat” people emotionally eat is just ridiculous. (Some people emotionally starve themselves. Is that better?)
The thing I find most offensive is that the author thinks sheer will power is what makes people fit. As anyone can tell you, no one lives in a vacuum. I wouldn’t be where I am without the support of family, friends, and strangers.
So, please - don’t let an article tell you what you probably know is wrong. Be your best friend, seek out those that will and can support you, and ignore the haters.
