Today is my first gym anniversary. Let’s reflect.
I joined one year ago thinking that I was going with the sole purpose of improving my health, and going to the gym has given me that and so much more.
I’ve started running again and have made some great friends that continue to push me. Gym attending is also a great social media topic. Just kidding (or am I?) but thank you to all those who pushed me to go when I didn’t want to.
You might think that I could have done this all on my own. And yes, there are people with the background knowledge and the willpower to do it on their own (and I have done exactly that, in the past), but I know I couldn’t sustain that this time around.
Although, I have gained a great deal of knowledge over the past year, everything I learned can be credited to the three introductory training sessions with a personal trainer.
In a previous blog post, I stated that my main fitness goal was to make it to year two, and since I have done just that, I guess I should make a whole new set of markers to strive for. I have a few ideas and am in the midst of charting them out. I’m sure with a little help from my friends, those ideas will become reality.
I think the biggest thing I have taken away from the gym experience is that gym going is not a solitary activity. People are more than willing to help you. Fitness is a journey and you will be constantly learning.
If you are starting out, keep this in mind. Like anything new, you have to start from somewhere. If you are continuing, what’s the biggest piece of advice you have or your largest epiphany that you have had?
